New! Nature Inspired Designs—Scientifically Illustrated T-Shirts

Lorin Anderberg

In our busy world, it is tempting to give in to the attention economy and dissociate from our surroundings. However, when we slow down and tune in to our five senses we can ground ourselves in the here and now. It is from this place of inner listening that we can cultivate a relationship with the natural world around us. Growing our awareness of the species that we cohabitate with is the first step toward being in right relationship with the land we occupy.

“Paying attention is a form of reciprocity with the living world, receiving the gifts with open eyes and open heart.”
— Robin Wall Kimmerer, Braiding Sweetgrass: Indigenous Wisdom, Scientific Knowledge and the Teachings of Plants

You may or may not know that Mandy has a Master’s Degree in Fine Art. While she is well known for her taxonomy photography and portraiture, Mandy has always loved drawing and has been hard at work hand-illustrating a new series of taxonomy-inspired designs for the store.

This series was inspired by scientific illustrations in field guide books. They each tell the story of the place they represent through the landscape, flora, and fauna that thrive there. These T-shirts can serve as an ecological field guide to the special places they pay homage to.

Learn about each design below!

Grinnell Point, Glacier National Park

Style with a sense of place, this Glacier National Park T-Shirt features an illustration of the Rocky Mountain range showcasing Grinnell Point, one of the most iconic views in the park. Formerly known as “Stark Point” for its abrupt appearance at the foot of Swiftcurrent Lake, this sub-peak of Mt. Grinnell is a must-see destination and most memorable experience.

The retro adventure-inspired design of this t-shirt, reminiscent of topographic maps, will serve as a memento for the crisp cool air and astounding presence of this one-of-a-kind location.

There are many keepsakes available for Glacier National Park. Supporting a local artist’s small-batch designs is yet another way conscious travelers can have a positive impact on the communities they visit.

Grand Prismatic, Yellowstone National Park

This Yellowstone National Park T-Shirt is scientifically illustrated, inspired by the flora and fauna that thrive in the geothermal ecosystem of Yellowstone National Park. The Grand Prismatic design serves as your field guide for wildlife in northwestern Wyoming. Fun fact: Did you know that the Grand Prismatic hot spring is the third-largest spring in the world? It is deeper than a 10-story building, that’s larger than a football field!

Whether you want to rock the look of a wildlife biologist or add a sense of place to your style, this artistic and informative t-shirt is the perfect keepsake for park visitors and nature lovers.

Proposition: Learn about each of the beings featured on this bandana so you can be the naturalist educator of your friend group!
